His Son in me

"...I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it: and profited in the Jews' religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.

But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace, to reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood..."

Galatians 1:11-16.

" reveal his Son in me"
No doubt we have heard teaching on this wonderful verse many times, and we may have a good understanding of what the Apostle Paul was meaning. If I may be permitted I would also like to say a few words about this.

First, I will say that this was always the purpose of God, not only to reveal "His Son" in the Apostle Paul, but to reveal His Son in all man*.

Secondly, I'd say it was the sole purpose of His creation, and the reason why, when He had finished His creation, said "it was very good", and why He rested from His works.

Thirdly, I am sure it was the only reason why Satan deceived Adam and Eve - in order to prevent or hinder God's sole desire to create the image of His Son in man.  But Satan is not God (although he hates to be reminded of the fact or admit it), and although he may have thwarted God's purpose, he could not prevent it.

We will not consider here the historical events that led up to Calvary, but we will consider in part why Calvary was necessary in regard to God’s purpose.

The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Romans, said, “our old man is crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin” (6:6). In order for God to reveal His son in men, he had to first get rid of the usurper - referred to by Paul as the old man. The image if His Son cannot dwell in the same body as the old man, and needed to be “put to death”.

The Lord Jesus was not only “wounded for our offensives” but also “made sin for us”. Men are not only sinners and sin-full, but have within them the corrupted nature (seed) of the first Adam. This is the reason why men must be born again, of the Spirit.
“And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven” (I Corinthians 15:45-47).

The new birth is not a transformation of the old man into a new man, as if by some magical power, it is the creation of the new man.

“…ye have put off the old man with his deeds; and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him“ Colossians 3:10.

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10.

“…put off concerning the former conversation (life) the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts.. And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” Ephesians 4.22&24.

The Fashion of Christ
Salvation is nothing less than Christ being formed in us. "My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed* in you." Gal 4:19. *μορφόω (morphoō) to "fashion". The tabernacle furniture was fashioned according to the Lord's requirements. "...thou shalt rear up the tabernacle according to the fashion thereof which was shewed thee in the mount". Exodus 26:30. The verb fashion means to "make into a particular form." God has but one fashion, and that is Christ, of which the Old Testament tabernacle was type.

Christ is formed in us by His indwelling Spirit.
“Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwells in you.” Romans 8:9-11.
Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.” II Corinthians 3:17-18.
